The Nicosia District Committee of the Cyprus Green Party – Citizens’ Cooperation invites you to celebrate Easter with respect for nature.
🥚 And we’re proposing an eco-friendly recipe to naturally dye your Easter eggs!
Why an eco-friendly Easter?
🌱 We choose materials from nature
♻️ We avoid chemical dyes
✨ We enjoy a meaningful Easter together with ecological awareness
🥄 Eco Recipe for Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
Ingredients:
• Organic eggs
• Madder root (available at fruit & vegetable shops)
• Beets
• Dried onion peels
• Daisies
• Vinegar
• Olive oil
• Coarse salt
• Cotton
• Pots
• Small leaves for decoration (parsley, rose, jasmine, etc.)
• String
• Tulle or old tights
Instructions:
We crush the madder root in a mortar until it becomes a paste and we place it in a pot with water, one tablespoon of vinegar, and one tablespoon of coarse salt, over low heat. Carefully we add the eggs (making sure they are at room temperature) and ensure they are fully submerged. Then we boil them gently until the eggs are fully cooked and take on a deep red color – about one hour.
For different shades, we can also use onion peels and/or beets.
Additionally, if we so wish, we can decorate the eggs by placing small leaves or daisies on them, wrapping them in tulle or old tights, and tying them with string.
Once cooled, we can polish the eggs with a little olive oil using cotton.
And a footnote: Madder is a native shrub that grows in southern Europe and southwest Asia. Its official name is reddish dye or ruvia dye (Rubia tinctorum).
Happy Easter!
With health, love, and… eco-consciousness 🌼
