The Cyprus Green Party expressed from the beginning its opposition on creating a seal park in Paralimni. For this reason we express our satisfaction for the rejection of the application from the environmental authority.
The Green Party considers that in Cyprus we do not have that necessary expertise and knowledge on handling large reptiles or for creation of an aquarium complex with sea mammals. The Green Party has a lot of reservations if the managers of these projects and their supervisors will be able to insure the prosperity and the welfare of the animals.
We remind that many years ago in Ayia Napa a dolphin and Seal Park was running which caused a storm of reactions and condemn of Cyprus. It was then forced to be closed and the Council of Ministers decided to forbid this kind of operations in Cyprus.
Let’s hope that the Environmental Departments’ denial will be final and not temporary.
